so again I miss Keith I am the director of student support services at Merrick Academy on charter school and what that means I but those abuses children go here are some of you on here a new your new to on the Merrick family I oversee all special education on the counseling department. Clinician the department of school nurse the dean of the English language Learners apartment or academic pension summer programs in Richmond program which is why y'all get so many emails from me because I participate in a bunch of different things of school so last year with school clothes and I did I was giving like a month to put together a virtual summer program and we it's summer school we had spring board and he's all virtual and and I also have a summer enrichment program which included math basketball arts and crafts origami and some other act and drumming as well and so this year's week of the year of mostly remote instruction one is that we open the Learning Center at Merrick and some of you who own here your children attend the Learning Center The Learning Center we decide to open based on the need of family sharing this with you because it's going to lead into why I know we're ready to do it in person of summer program which is what we're doing and so the Learning Center we serve 70-plus Mesmerize on him Miss Mariah runs the daily day-to-day activities Learning Center and so we serviced family lot of family members on here who are essential go to a First Responders people who just have to go to work we have students families who are in between housing we have students who get who might have a one-to-one para and if you're home you get that power for 3 hours virtually up to 15 hours they come to school they get them all day and so there was a real need and so with servicing that me we open the center starting on the 7th of December and was still running and because we ran the center we were able to really practice what does it mean to run a school essentially right even though the kids come and all of their learning is virtual does it mean to do health and safety screening right how do you engage the special little one little kids want to hug they don't care anything about covid and they run all at the same time I mean excited to see each other so like all of these These are the real thing that happened there's busing with dealing with busting kids eating in their classroom like how do you train kids to like wash their hands it oh my God you sneeze in your face mask so like go get another car like all of those like things that you can read a manual on but it's not until you actually dealing with the kids did they do you really see what you need to do so the Learning Center has been at the training ground for what we need to do to open and so I have full confidence that because of the work that we've done here and a lot of the work that there's a whole new ventilation system in the class it is top knock it's going to watch a video so you can actually see what the school looks like now it's it's better than what any of the deal we schools have been with a lot of time invested a lot of money and making sure that the classrooms estate and we've also expect right what it is when someone and and and I'll tell you more or that has happened where they've gotten cold from someone outside of the school right kid comes in school and I'm knocking on wood right now because we had zero transmission today meaning kids adults who have Kobe but haven't transmitted it to anyone in the school and it goes through testing and all of those things that we've done to everything that I'm speaking of today is not like hypothetical or theoretical something we're going to try these are things that we already doing okay so I'm before I begin I'm going to let Miss Mariah she can turn the camera on on meet herself and introduce her to you all hi everyone my name is Mariah and I am the coordinator at Merritt so I deal with the day-to-day process with the kids and you know making sure that just overseeing everything they can show that they're online or on zoom and everything literally so I just hope I just Aidan assist with anything that was Keith Mease anything that the operational team needs Miss Melanie so yeah and so memorize all right handed Ronnie said that you probably have number and she calls and you call her then if you have my number so I'm going to get into the slides and then at the end you'll be a chance for you for there to be a question and I will say as I'm speaking to but I'm also experiencing as a working parent having to reach 161 and middle schools 11th and one and elementary school so I can expect I think all three levels of schooling right now during covid and one thing I can say is that while for some kids some kid actually his Burger pieces been there like really good there go to the classes that fine the social impact and impact with everybody and not in a good way for the younger kids learning in person is very different then learning to a computer install tomb have an effective summer program this year is very important that we have in person instruction in person instructions to me there is no point in doing a summer program what would happen what's happening all school year when we see that there's a lawsuit so so so that having in person was a very intentional decision that we made it and again having the practice of running the Learning Center we know that we have the capacity to capability in the know how to unlock a safe and effective way that he's in line the Department of Health in the city. I'm going to go back to the first live okay still Summer Academy at Matt give you a program overview okay so the program is for Rising kindergarteners through Rising 5th graders so what does that mean if your child is currently Pre-K kindergarten first second third or fourth then they can enroll in the program if your child is turning the fifth grade in their graduating then the program isn't good for them so just children who answering the school and up and knows Rising 5th graders it's going to be here at Merrick Academy and it's going to begin Tuesday July 6th through Thursday August 12th the daily schedule is Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 a.m. across the street and students will be provided by and snack daily attendance if you're in grade catered to and you have opted to be in the hybrid program that schedule is Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday and Wednesday was used as if use as a day to do the deep cleaning and the intention behind that was that we were having two different the agent comes in Monday and Tuesday you do a thorough cleaning on Wednesday Thursday Friday this week because it's the same kids coming in the building we're going to stay in the deep cleaning for Friday here is a sample schedule Edwards still working some things out slow cater to they come in at 8:30 8:30 to 9 they'll be breakfast will be breakfast and arrival time at 9 a.m. and I'm working out some stuff earlier time for those of you who might need to drop them off before 8:30 you'll get more information around that so that you can drop so you can drop them off earlier springboard the springboard program is a phonics program we did it last summer we did it the spring some of your children may be in it it is a program for Chase to do our Pre-K students out with who are rising kindergarten and first grade second grade will automatically be in the springboard program it is amazing if their parents on here you can get a testimonial at the end it's rate and if your child is in grade 3 they'll be in Rising 3 for 5 and they're in the excellent classes they they can awesome we're going to do some yoga some mindfulness we have a huge outside space when it's not raining we're going to go because the kids need to learn how to like self-regulate is really good to meditate. the day despite the images like if you type yoga Google search you don't see black and brown people but it originated from us right like doing kemetic yoga really getting kid get in touch with their feelings where they're feeling stuff when they get angry when they get frustrated because it's all of all of us know you seen a change in isolation doesn't do the body at once they get around all the kids again you know they're going to be facing situation dealing with certain things that maybe they didn't have to deal with it and so this will help them to self write it and then dip everyone is going to have 45 minutes of math and Ela a day we'll have lunch lunch will either be in the classroom or if it's raining or along if you've been to the school along the entire building Daddy's cap outside so kids can actually eat outside on my Cadence who have an enrichment block and I'll go later but those enrichment activities are and this is just the skeleton because we're going to add more and then everyone's going to have an hour of Athletics a lot of our kids have not been doing a lot of movement right and so we really want to get the movie and I'll going to what that's going to be like what programs are offering will have snack time in the independent time if you look at 3 to 5 the only difference is that 325 has two different Richmond now one thing I will say how This Could Be Imagined as springboard is broken up into small groups of instructions so it's actually going to be two blocks of 30 minutes one small group and then another smoke springboard is the only aspect of his program and the spring what program is taught by the nurse is teaching a sense so cater to the curriculum is being written by a Master Teachers who taught at Brooklyn branch Independent School in Brooklyn and they are you with the private schools have to Columbia University and so they work there they write curriculum there and so they've written based off of the standards that we use in Merrick Academy their writing curriculum to review concept key Concepts current year and then they're going to get to preview some concepts for the upcoming year right like if your child is in kindergarten sight words that they should know right I think they should be taking you this isn't you know the whole like those I think I can you hold a pencil a lot of things have been happening on the computer right so so those they can write your name identify the letters and stay you let us do you know so those are the things that we want make sure that they have them and then let's take a look at what the next rate is on the literature program will include phonics for the younger kids and for everyone reading and writing and then mathematics is a while Wrightsville the mathematics contest again will be based off of some of the key Concepts from there and introducing concept that they can see in the beginning of next year Merrick Academy is transitioning from being a school that dusting to a steam school and so the summer programming a lot of the people who actually work at Merrick right now as checking who are The Learning Center or by trade they do coding robotic some of them is majoring in engineering biology and Mathematics and so they're acting going to be working with your students will be the people who do this work for living to write so we study that they do they're going to work without students with different themed products along with who is who is enrichment enrichment we're going to be doing robotics coding we have a guard organic gardening sign language drawing and painting is going to be a boy who and there's going to be a girls school clothes pretty brown this is just the beginning with the ball start to find lasting but these are the things that we have in place already what Athletics right now that you will have a basketball program for boys and girls will have a co-ed soccer program and will have flag football I am looking into lacrosse I'm looking into lacrosse program for the summer is not for the summer for the fall I didn't add that it's the cross and golfing but these are the three programs we're going to have right now so every Thursday will be taking a trip these is a list of that we have right now so the right now doing a lot so we go to the park you take the kids to the park and after I park is on Spring if that's okay or Springfield Boulevard is a dead huge feel like a soccer field there's a basketball court and there's a playground really beautiful Park and so we'll have a date with the kids when it's sprinklers eat their food outside play go to the Hall of Science we're going to go to the aquarium the Queen's do the Queens farm and then one of our checking he's a scientist and he's also a magician and we got to experience his magic show magic show so he's going to do every Thursday will have a chance we will be traveling by bus I'm by school bus for those trips and so will work with working out those details the way it works now for the for the busing for school is that there was just one kid to receipt and it's like every other seat will probably have one kid to it what will try and keep the six two or three different thing because I'm still working out those details everything and everything we do we're keeping in mind what is CDC guidelines that brings you to the next by Stacy Stacy Stacy so it's going to be important that you are complete the daily screening form so in your in your in the packet when you go to jambalaya are Sundays always wanted to sell out and in addition to that you can have to do it and you'll do that if we decide move away from the deli screening then they're just going to be one phone that you complete saying that every day you're going to do if you're going to make sure what was trying to trick me about this season right now. allergy season, cold it looks much worse like a stomach virus right like they're all these different think so we'd rather than play it safe if your kid is sick you don't know what it is it's best I can say today is my middle daughter how do you feel then that impacts all the people same time I don't want you to go crazy and every time I kiss sneeze they're like oh my God so we at the people who've been here in the building they're used to it right I would say if you don't know go to the school nurse so you'll provide child with their own face mask but when they come here they also are provided with we have a p p e and all the classes and you'll see that in the video we have child size adult size face mask we make sure that and we pray we've already trained the people who are working here that if a kid sneezes you get a new face right because now doesn't serve this purpose they have we have been washing station kids get the individual face Shields that they the teachers have to say because a lot of times the kids think they wanted and to act like you might have to help us do that and you're getting close and it has a shield around would you see I just see in the video covid testing so we're going to be doing biweekly covid testing right now in the building adult we do bi-weekly we want to make sure that we don't have covid that we're not coming the only time during the school year that we've done covid testing for students as if as if we get a report that either adult or the child had covid and then we will provide free or any kid in that pod in that class and your family what we're going to do for the summer program as we're going to continue to biweekly might change. because if we get a positive covid test we know before we go on a school trip on Thursday because it takes by one day to get the results back and we'll be doing 33% will be test I'm 33% of students and it'll be the mouth swab so it's not the nasal swab let's say you say my child is like doesn't like going the doctors even if it's a mouse while they're going to freak out you can come or you can take your talk to your doctor they don't have to do the test here but we are offering it it is we are covering the cost of it right but we are not going to anyone's child to go in and sit down if they start you know freaking out or anything else like that I know what most kids my five-year-old did it once they do it and they just wiped inside and out there like like that's okay but we can talk if you have any has any on reservations we can talk but it is going to be important that you all sign the waiver so that you're talkin and again if you're saying you want to come you can come or if you want to take it to the doctor the individual student material so whatever materials or resources that we're using students just like they have the money since the students will have their own notebooks that they'll have their own and if your child has a power and they helped power or behavior so if your child doesn't have a spa then that Tara is not working with your child over the summer but I'm making sure that there are people in the building who are trying to work with you if that's the case that you providing our students and staff with a safe learning and working environment when entering the school building please observe the health and safety signs and be sure that you are clear to the building upon entry status to earloop face mask and stands six feet apart the security and safety person will take your temperature staff and have not completed the daily screening questionnaire prior to arrival will be asked to complete one on-site before beginning work each floor has a boys and girls restroom restrooms are equipped with sanitizing equipment touchless hand soap and faucets and automatic paper towel dispensers restrooms also have HEPA air purifiers installed for increased air filter restrooms are cleaned every 15 minutes or as needed by the school cleaners classrooms have been modified so students in classroom stack it remain in a 6-foot distance each class has a brand new Bentley system installed rotating fan type of pure fires in a classroom to promote frequent hand-washing students and staff eating meals and whenever necessary sweet Nails in our classrooms will wear facial mask and gloves was serving student meals individual student materials are given to each student learning on site before dismissal students are required to place all materials into their backpack instructions to make sure to bring Student Business with my place in the classroom if a student or staff member is not feeling well and it's cool ministration that they may have it and the person will be clarifying questions and my parents and Guardians will be notified a Communications follow-up will take place in Clarence by the school must be given before the 6th student or staff member returns on-site the school will follow all CDC guidelines when dealing with six students or staff why we understand there is no 100% preventative way to prevent anyone from getting sick at the school building we know that footing and place these methods will promote a safe environment and decrease the risk of infection in the school our partnership together and we look forward to doing our part where they covid free world so y'all can see why I said it's an oscar-winning performance has really got me Miss Miller and operations team they've got an amazing upgrading the school and they've been working on it since since the summer since last summer to make this a safe place so in the summer each student is going to receive a t-shirt that they can wear when we go on trips and they'll receive a backpack and so the three to five days the blue and then we're going to have a different color for catered to so every Thursday just make sure you have that you have that with you I will say if you are a parent youngest child who may have accident ever in a big ziplock bag a change of clothes with a name on it not the flyest outfit that you have the one you don't and we can keep it in the room because the kids have do have a wash and dry it here but I just handed out my last outfit the other day right so like I have no more extra clothes again so please if you know every once in awhile and there's no one to run to the school to bring them I would suggest packing that for them in the summer so this is what everyone is going to be I want to talk about busting so if your child receives daughter do a blessing right now you'll know it because they received it last year they're receiving it now so usually kids have daughter to a bus thing or kids if it's on their IP you live in alternative maybe a seltzer those are the students who get daughter door but then you have General button and so if you have General busing do the kids bus the bus comes along the Route a picky child summer school you go back you don't have to have any other qualifying I didn't like you before I pee or living in an apple have ignition person she is working to get more information about busing it looks like only. Schools will be provided by General like general education summer and so I'm just looking into the cost to register I'm going to send out a survey to find out how many people that don't have busing actually need it like it is but it's going to be the weather based on those numbers we're going to see what that cost is cuz it's going to cost me for us to pay for busting out of pocket but I'm just letting you know right now if you do need extended so if you do need the day ends at 2:45 and you need your child to stay longer to have childcare there's also Little People which is right up the street and right now little people and they pick up the kids, and they walk them over there so you don't get off work till 5 having them here to 2:45 but they can go right to pick up the kids and they bring them up and there's also and also look there's also a private busing and if you reach out to Miss Clark Miss Clark and give you the information about email in the chat all students must have updated help walk on Stars this is super super import kids have allergies and I know my kids will be have one thing on Monday and if I take him to the doctor something else it is very important that we know what their allergies are if they have all the general thing because it's something happen God forbid we need all the help that he is what we know about the kids why do they have any allergies to Medicine no like we need to have all of that information some of you already have your updated Health form because it tells me to learning something from many of you I don't and I've been having a people how to say hey we don't have an updated on health form on fire while you are not required to submit a help form once once the child is 5 you're not required to I think it's the same distance to not provide the place where your kid is going to be all day with updated health information it it doesn't make that so that is very important. So registration so registration opens today it closes on June 7th at 11:59 I have 40 seats prograde 240 240 C program now let's say that I get a bunch of the Verizon so let's say a bunch of the incoming kindergarten fam they come in and I know it's 60 Pam and I only have like 20 first with him open up another kindergarten class right now another class grade if I see them is only 40 seats available this is the link so when you jumble up and I'll drop the Lincoln the tattoo when you go on jumbler you'll go and you click the appropriate great again. So for the kindergarteners were coming sorry for the kindergarteners who are coming and they will also be able to they will have to get them their devices right because unless you have one so we've given students devices right so they have Chromebooks so that's not what I'm asking I'm sorry I'm sorry okay last year that Sean was in 5th grade and I let him stay home because I didn't see the point of them doing online I didn't see okay go after some spaghetti the point of him doing online while being in school I want burn my kid named Gardner that's coming in he has an IEP so I think he needs to be in school but I I'm asking how would I fill out our how will I get a chance request for him to be in school oh okay so you mean just let me just let me just make sure cuz we have a few things going to are you talkin this is just kindergarten who's coming in next school year right yes okay so right now Our intention is to have everyone back at the building next year for new families as well no I spilled it out but because you were saying kids could do it virtually as well I'm saying how will you know that I definitely want him in the building because you feel that you feel that my summer program phone that means you want your child in the building in my summer program if I look at my when I was when I send out the information for springboard only on spring board and not in my summer program that I just wanted to do it virtually okay so the link but you just gave us was for jambalaya and I filled that out so I'm good you're good hey Dad can anybody repeat what she said about the username I miss that because it was a lot of state did your child go to the Saturday classes no all right so you have to go on the link. money on the thing you got to go on the link and it will ask you if you want to create one you're going to use your personal email address not your child and your creator password and will follow the steps from their email message says already a user well go forgot password are try one of the password that you know you normally use the most alright thank you sorry I have another question since you're still active I'm selecting the greatest so my daughter will be going to be second grade and when I still like that it's still telling me I need to choose a grade it's not taking and you selected second grade yes because that's above my pay grade right when I sing sorry it's not allowing me to get past there you get an error message every time when I click continue fidget that participants must be in one grade to register for this class but I'm only selecting one grade give me one second do not going through.
