Merrick Health and Medical Updates

Dear Merrick Parents:

As many of you are aware, the COVID-19 (formally Coronavirus) is being monitored nationwide. Merrick School leaders continue to receive updated information about the virus and its effect on our school system. For the past month, we have backpacked home all Department of Health letters to families. We will continue to send home letters as they are released and post resource links on our website.

In response to the current situation, Merrick Academy, along with schools citywide has established new protocols in cleaning and facilitating the school building. We are keeping a full inventory of cleaning supplies and water. Our school custodians already utilize strong practices for preventing the spread of viruses and have included an aggressive approach during this time. This includes the frequent disinfection of surfaces such as handrails, tabletops, doorknobs, light switches, faucet handles, etc.. Sanitization of student desks, chairs and Chromebooks are done daily using CDC approved cleaning products. Classrooms and offices are continuously supplied with hand sanitizers, tissue and disinfectant wipes. We have begun to place signages around the school to remind students of practical hygienic habits and kid-friendly videos about the COVID-19 virus were shared with students in classrooms.

In accordance with the NYS Health Department, we have communicated and are enforcing Sick Staff and Student Guidelines. We are asking parents to help in the initiative to keep Merrick a healthy environment. If your child is sick please do not send them to school. Seek medical attention immediately. If you have anyone in your household or live in an area that has been identified with COVID-19 and have been in direct contact with an infected person, please notify the school immediately.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the school.
